Clergy Family Leadership Training Retreat
December 7 - 9, 2001

Seventh Episcopal District
Mrs. Lula Cleckley, Episcopal President
Mrs. Lucinda Crawford Belin, Episcopal Supervisor
Bishop Henry Allen Belin Jr., Presiding Prelate

CONN-M-SWAWO, PLUS P.K.S LEADERSHIP TRAINING RETREAT Held under the Leadership of President Fredia A. Hanley-Johnson at the Crowne Plaza Resort Hilton Head Island, South Carolina December 7-9, 2001

Amid the Palmetto and hanging moss so familiar in the southeast area, where the magnificent Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is located, and nestled beneath the big trees and lush vegetation is the Crowne Plaza Resort Hotel, where the Ministers' Spouses, Widows and Widowers, Plus P.K.'S Organization of the AME Church gathered to make plans for the New Year.

In this casual atmosphere Bishop Henry Allen Belin, Jr., Mrs. Lucinda Crawford Belin, and a large delegation of 7th District members headed by Mrs. Lula Cleckley, Episcopal President, warmly and graciously welcomed us. The Welcome Reception was in the spirit of a family reunion. Many clergy members were in attendance and joined in the fellowship or eagerly participated in the many outdoor sports activities available at the Hotel, or just strolled along the beautiful beach in the warm sunshine. Clergy attending were: Bishop Belin, Presiding Elder Carolyn Tyler-Guidry (5th), Presiding Elder John E. Madison (13th), Reverend William W. Easley, Jr., (13th), Chaplain Carroll Chambliss (2nd), Reverend Taylor T. Thompson (3rd), Reverend Mack Hurst (8th), Reverend Robert J. King (9th), Reverend Farrell J. Duncombe (9th) and Reverend Lewis A. Norful (12th).

President Fredia A. Hanley-Johnson and the Planning Committee arranged an aggressive framework for the agenda and introduced it to the Executive Committee. The President set the tone with her explicit expectations of this Meeting and gave some salient facts related to the structure and operations of the Organization.

We were empowered by two veteran presenters with information and tools for cultivating meaningful relationships "OUR NET WORTH PRICELESS" by Christene Chambliss, President, North America Area, World Federation of Methodist & Uniting Church Women. Mrs. Chambliss gave a presentation on different personalities, and offered some tools to communicate and work with all types of personalities, especially one's own. And a motivational presentation "SO YOU WANT TO BECOME A MILLIONAIRE" by Mrs. Willie Ann Madison, First Lady South Memphis District, West Tennessee Conference - 13th Episcopal Episcopal District and CEO, Little People's Preparatory Academy, LLC Early Years Training Consortium. Mrs. Madison used her experiences over the years as "An Economic Miracle Worker" to offer information and economical strategies.

The Task Force dialogue was indeed the highlight of the gathering. The entire program plans for the coming year became a reality from the Membership Explosion Campaign to the Retreat Site next December 2002. The Task Force Process under the subject of "Shared Leadership" was strictly followed "to a tee" and the results became clear in the reports given in plenary. Episcopal Supervisors, Mrs. Lucinda C. Belin, Mrs. Barbara J. Chappelle and Mrs. Dorothy J. Young, worked diligently with us throughout the meeting, and contributed greatly during the Task Force dialogue.

Our devotions and Meditation Moments were spiritually prepared and conducted by Mr. Donovan W. Guidry, Worship Leader, Mrs. Barbara McNeely-Bouie, Music Chairperson, and Reverend Margaret Mitchell Giddings, 2nd Vice President.

After our Executive Planning Session had come to a close, all of our plans in place, our thoughts focused on the next big event for CONN-M-SWAWO, Plus P.K.'S, THE CLERGY FAMILY BREAKFAST featuring PATRICIA RUSSELL-MCCLOUD, J.D., Professional Orator and Author during our Empowerment Breakfast to be held June 24, 2002 at the Marriott Hotel in Tampa, Florida (site of the Bishops' Council & General Board Meeting).

Now it was time to evoke the Spirit of God to bless our efforts, maximize our Plans, and guide our steps as we make all of it a reality to the Glory and Honor of our Savior and Creator. The Hymns of Praise, the Prayers, the Commitment and Recommitment and Benediction lifted us to a high plane and equipped us with the assurance of God's Healing Grace. The Sending Forth Breakfast was one we will long remember.
