The AME Church Preacher's Kid (PK) Scholarship Application

The Annual AME Preacher's Kids Scholarships and Book Awards will be awarded to a dependent child under the age of 21 whose Parent or Legal guardian is a member of the Connectional Minister's Spouses Widows and Widowers Organization Plus PK's (Conn-M-SWAWO Plus PK's) or the Preacher's Kid (PK) must be a member in good and regular standing.  Must be a member for a minimum of one (1) year prior to submission of application.

 The following awards will be presented in 2007:  (1) $2,500.00 Scholarship for  District 1 - 13; (1) $2,500.00  Scholarship for  District 14 - 20; and (4) $250.00 Book Awards.

REQUIREMENT PROCEDURES

  1. Parent or Legal Guardian or Preacher's Kid (PK) is a member of CONN-M-SWAWO.Plus PK's for a minimum of one (1) year prior to application.
  2. The District in which applicant resides must be financially supportive of the CONN-M-SWAWO Plus PK's Annual Fundraiser (First Lady/First Gentleman Contest).
  3. Completed application (see application procedures) must be postmarked by April 5.
  4. The Scholarship will be awarded each year to a deserving freshman who is a member of the AME Church.  Recipients will be notified by the Scholarship Chairperson by June 1.
  5. Recipient must submit the name and address of the institution he/she plans to attend and proof of acceptance by June 15.
  6. The check will be made payable to and mailed to the students, if they are not in attendance at the Annual Awards Breakfast in June at the seat of the Bishop's Council. 
  7. If the student withdraws or fails to enroll, the funds must be returned to the Scholarship Committee Chairperson.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

bulletA graduate of an accredited high school or have received a GED certificate,
bulletAttend an institution of Higher Education,
bulletBe a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church,
bulletHave scored 850 or higher on the SAT, ACT or National Test,
bulletRank in the top 50 percent of your high school class, or
bulletHave a cumulative Grade Point average of 2.5 or higher, or meet the requirements for acceptance to an institution of higher learning in your own Country.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

bulletApplication for the Preachers' Kids Scholarship must be postmarked by April 5th each year,
bulletSubmit three (3) letters of recommendation - one each from the following:
- A Guidance Counselor,
- A Teacher or School Official,
- An AME Pastor or Officer.
bulletSubmit an official copy of your High School Transcript, GPA, Class Rank, SAT or ACT Scores, or National Test and Rank,
bulletSubmit a letter stating why you should be awarded this scholarship,  List any extenuating circumstances.
bulletSubmit a 300 - 350 word typed (double spaced) essay on "How the AME. Church has made a difference in my life and what I will do to support my Church".
bulletList the following on separate sheet(s).  Please include your name and address on each sheet.

- Your High School Organizations and Extra-curricular Activities
- Any Honors/Achievements/Recognitions Received
bulletApplication must be signed by the Presiding Bishop or Episcopal Supervisor and the Episcopal District M-SWAWO President where the applicant resides..

For an application, click Application/Instructions. Print both pages, complete the application, mail with the other documents.  Make sure you have included all the required documents.  (It is recommended that your Episcopal District PK Scholarship Committee Representative screen the application packet prior to submission.)
