CONN-M-SWAWO . . .

Organization and First President

Dr. Dorothy Owens

CONN-M-SWAW0, Plus P.K.'s was organized in St. Louis, Missouri in 1989 by a group of concerned Episcopal Supervisors, Ministers' Spouses, Ministers' Widows and Pastors.

Dr. Dorothy Owens (Left) was the Founding President. Dr. Owens served as President of the organization until June of 1997.

The Baton Is Passed

Mrs. Ora L. Easley

In June of 1997 at the site of the Bishops Council and General Board Meeting in Orlando, Florida, Mrs. Ora L. Easley was elected the organization's second President!

Under her leadership, many wonderful accomplishments were made but none can compete with Conn-M-SWAWO Plus PK's existence in cyberspace and our presence in the 2000 Book of Discipline AME Church.

The Race Continues

Mrs. Fredia A. Hanley-Johnson

In June of 2005 at the site of the Bishop's Council and General Board Meeting in Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Fredia A. Hanley-Johnson was elected the organization's third President!

Organization Meetings

Sessions are held twice per year: The Clergy Family Leadership Planning Retreat and The Clergy Family Seminar.  Our Annual Meeting, the Clergy Family Leadership Planning Retreat is held in December.  The Clergy Family Seminar is held in June at the site of the Bishop's Council and General Board Meeting.  During these sessions we present seminars and workshops dealing with areas of professionalism, ethics, image, P.K. issues, retirement planning, family planning, fitness and health, vocation and avocation pressures, family stress and recreation.

Program Goals . . .

bulletTo broaden the concept and perception of CONN-M-SWAWO, PLUS P.K.'S throughout  African Methodism,

bulletTo engage in a massive public relations campaign to increase awareness of the organization's goals and objectives, and to increase the organization's membership,

bulletTo actively involve the P.K.'S (preacher's children) through meaningful ventures which would elicit their full participation,

bulletTo foster initiatives for health and wellness as well as retirement preparedness for Clergy families,

bulletTo promote "Housing Allowance Packages" for Clergy families as a sound and reasonable alternative to parsonage living,

bulletTo promote an annual significant project to benefit Clergy families in one of our overseas districts,

bulletTo develop a communication network for the widows, widowers, and children of AME Ministers,

bulletTo be an advocate for Clergy families in general!
